Gears of war 2 in game informer
The Coalition's first Gears of War game is a fun, but familiar experience. Xbox Games With Gold around this month, offering two of their biggest first-party titles through the service. The Overwatch League is entering its final stages as several games have their big events this week. It's been 25 years since Marcus Fenix and Delta Squad last saved the planet, but the battle isn't over yet. The Coalition has finally lifted the veil on the return of the popular Horde mode for Gears of War 4.
JD and friends get a little messy thanks to copious amounts of Swarm guts. Most of the time I'll have a quick chat with Cliff Bleszinski and Rod Fergusson , and we'll discuss important themes the cover might need to display so that the art can communicate to the readers at-a-glance any cool features or story elements from the game.
After I get a general idea of what we'd like to show, I'll start roughing something in using Unreal Engine 3. I've done most of the covers for magazines and comics that feature our franchises, and every one of them is created using Unreal Engine 3. I'll usually start by building the background or "set" which is a small level or area. For example, for this cover I started with the backdrop.
We knew we wanted to use a Lambent-themed location to introduce the threat of a third race. I started with rubble and destroyed buildings, then added Lambent Stalks that are basically the new Emergence Holes or delivery systems for the infected Lambent creatures. I made them look like they had burst through, damaged the architecture and just leveled the area that was once ripe with beautiful architecture.
After the backdrop is complete I start to rough in characters and placement. I do this all in Unreal Ed the editor in Unreal Engine 3 , and the characters are the same ones you'll be playing in the game. Once I get a composition I like, I'll run it by some of the artists for their trusted opinions and suggestions.
An alternate version What guidance were you given on this piece in particular? We discussed how one of the main themes of this game would be the new Lambent threat. The planet is becoming infected and has given birth to a new race of creatures. They have no alliance and mindlessly lay waste to anything in their path. To show off this third race threat theme, I placed dead Locust at the feet of the Lambent creatures so that the viewer would hopefully "get" these aren't new Locust enemies; they are a real threat and are something much different.
Other things we wanted to get across at a glance are the new character armor and weapons. It's summer time on Sera and the idea is that the armor designs from Gears 1 and 2 were bulky and hot. The COG have disbanded in this third game and they've removed the outer shell, if you will, of armor plating so they'd be cooler and more mobile as the planet heats up for summer.
If you look close at the lights on Marcus' shoulders they've changed from the 3 light strip. This is supposed to represent the inner workings of that light. What's under the outer armor after it is removed. There's also more leather padding and a grungy tattered tee shirt. New weapons can also be seen. The Lancer, front and center, is always the iconic one, but now it looks beat up, tattered, and torn — reflecting the condition of the team. Dom is holding the new double-barrel sawed off shotgun.
Cole has the One Shot, a massive cannon that can gib a Boomer. There are also other subtle themes if you look closer. The unified COG have disbanded and Anya has taken up combat and is wearing battle gear. A wireframe version Do you complete the entire art piece from beginning to end, or are there other artists who participate in the creation along the way? There are many artists involved in the creation of the piece.
At least they critique with the proper information and correct facts. I didn't say it's because it's a PS3 exclsusive why it should be given higher score than a game..? The games overall quality is just way better than whatever is being offered in Gears Its funny because many review outlets would disagree with you yet you say your opinion of the 2, yet to be released games, as if it were pure fact.
For example, I personally don't care at all about R2. That doesn't mean Im going to go around bashing people for liking it. Because its a freaking opinion, just like reviews. Rice I would agree except Gears fails on the innovation front. An extra player, increased gibs, and chainsaw battles hardly qualifies. It is the same rehashed gameplay from the first title. Then compare that to R2, a title that truly innovated and has set an unprecedented console record.
Quite frankly imo Resistance had alot more room for improvement compared to Gears Danja "GI is sh! Obama looks to win the election; consider it done folks!! Also, great post JOY, you effectively placed the final tombstone on this debate. It shall read: Here lies ignorance, and bestiality, slaughtered tragically by the heroic knight Joy.
Bubbles, my friend. Open zone worthy? Stop complaining and just enjoy the games on your favorite system. See, everyone wins. A review is just an opinion, nothing more. Oh I forgot, you look at sales, so that makes you look even more stupid. So, did FBI and Lollyflop get there accounts banned so they just made new ones? This site is hopeless. Anyway, to those calling BS on this review where are all you people in the Wired review.
They gave R2 a higher score than Gears 2 but I don't see a bunch of people crying about bias. Anyway, about to go pick this bad boy up now, my Gears 2 is waiting! Nice to have connections!!! Resist the Flop?
It doesn't really matter. It's already common knowledge that Gears 2 will outsell Resistance 2 by more than a generous margin. I do like a bit of GOW2 bit its not shiny enough, Fable 2 on the other hand.. Perhaps I'll pick it up in the new year. MGS4 had citscenes yes but you could skip them idiot. Reviews are opinions. Game Informer is made to sell the next big game at Gamestop. Why has Game Informer rated Gears 2 and Resistance 2 so low. I expected at least a 9.
Something must be going on over there. Maybe Nintendo bought them. Now if slaughtering aliens for hours on end with a proficient cover system is enough to satisfy you, by all means But personaly I think that a 9 for a sequal with lackluster story is a stretch.
And no I don't agree with the lamborgini analogy because when games are too similar to the original then why buy another?
Do you need two lamborginis? Wouldn't it be better to own one and then own a Mustang as well which might not be as good in terms of preformance but has alot more character?
I think so. If you really like Gears then obviously buy the sequel but I don't think its an great acomplishment that should be bragged about. Don't reviewers rate best in genre anymore? Gears 2 is competing against metal gear solid 4.
